We have a plan!

Well, sort of!

Last night, I drug Steve to a fabric store to pick out fabric for Sprout's room. We couldn't leave until we agreed on at least 2 fabrics that would work in her room. Good thing I bribed him with Red Robin for dinner!

Since you aren't supposed to use a bumper or quilt in a crib, I think it's silly to pay for a crib set so I have decided to make a crib skirt and purchase some solid sheets to go with it. I am also going to make a valance, pillow (for the glider), and whatever else I can think of to go in the nursery.

This will be the crib skirt with a pink sheet on the crib:

Then, we will cover panels in the bifold closet doors with this:

*the colors look a bit off in the picture...but you get the idea
I'll do the valances in one of those fabrics as well as a blanket in the pink with green minky backing. I am excited to see how much fabric I have left (I bought a TON) to make anything else I think of. :)

As for the walls, they will be mostly pink with some sort of design/stripe going on that Steve will do. I'm also on the lookout for a pink chandalier!

GIRL!

19 Weeks

*Disregard the makeup-less face. I'm on vacation!
How far along?: 19 Weeks
How big is baby?: The size of a mango!
Weight gain?: 5 pounds
Stretch marks?: not yet
Maternity clothes: Yes, but I have determined I need more ribbed tank tops for the summer. Target, here I come!
Sleep?: When the neighbor dog isn't barking, I sleep great! One morning, I screamed, "shut up" out the window at 7:30 AM. NOT my best moment.
Best moment this week?: I got my hair cut today. She thinned it out a bit and gave me a product for my frizz around my face...thank you, hormones!
Food Cravings?: Cinnamon rolls. I found some at the grocery made by the amish. You just can't beat the amish!
Gender?: We find out on FRIDAY! I'll post the results on Monday.
Movement?: I am still not sure yet. I probably have, but I am not sure what movement feels like.
What I miss?: Sometimes I miss wine.
Belly button: Still in and no signs of coming out...woohoo!
What I'm looking forward to?: Finding out what Sprout is and seeing family at the river this weekend.

Baby Update

How far along?: 17 Weeks
How big is baby?: The size of an onion!
Weight gain?: 3+ lbs...depending on the day (I lost 5 in the first trimester, gained that back, and some more...so who really knows)
Stretch marks?: Nope, but I am sure they're coming.
Maternity clothes: Yes, my old pants still fit, but they aren't near as comfortable. I wear regular tops and maternity tops.
Sleep?: Not too shabby. I am falling asleep on the couch by 9, but having trouble sleeping through the night mostly because of bathroom breaks.
Best moment this week?: Leaving school on Friday ready for a 3 day weekend and finding out my student did NOT have fifths disease (scary!).
Food Cravings?: Sausage biscuits and baked potatoes (not together)
Gender?: We find out in less than 3 weeks!
Movement?: Nope. Still waiting. (Feel free to leave me a comment to tell me when you first felt yours.)
What I miss?: Not much. Sleeping through the night.
Belly button: In but wide. You can see the indentation through my shirts. Ew.
What I'm looking forward to?: Finding out what Sprout is and school being out (2 weeks).

Steve, the "student"

In college, where you are supposed to be there to learn, I met Steve.

I remember meeting Steve and being amazed that he was an architecture student. I mean, those kids are SMART and they WORK HARD...or so I thought. Quickly, I learned that he worked hard (and played hard), but NEVER studied....NEVER! Still, he did well in college and quickly found a job. Lucky duck.

Shortly after we were married, Steve had to take a big test for structural engineering. I watched him try to study...mostly because he didn't want to fail and waste the money. Folks, he didn't study, and he passed.

I'm not sure how he does it, but I sure do hope Sprout gets his brain!

While planning for the baby, we've talked a lot about the presence of books in the house. I want books....LOTS OF THEM! I am a teacher, that's what I like. Steve, however, says books are stupid and "our child won't have them." After talking to Steve's mom, I have learned a fun fact that might surprise some of you.

STEVE LOVED TO READ! hahaha He will probably not like me posting this dirty little secret.

Working in the school district he went to school in, I was even able to meet the first love of his life, Mrs. Taylor, his first grade teacher. She just thinks he was/is the cutest, smartest, most wonderful thing ever.

Steve's mom passed this along to me. One of Steve's "published" writing pieces from second grade. Obviously, the teacher proofread and edited for him, but as a first grade teacher, it's still pretty impressive, and as a wife, it's hilarious!

How the Dinosaur Got His Teeth
by Steven Woods, Second Grade
Once, long ago, there was a dinosaur who lived by a big swamp. He had a terrible toothache. He could not stand it because it hurt so much! So he stuck his mouth in the swamp. That did not work so he waited a couple days and it still hurt. He told his mom that his tooth hurt. His mom said, "I do not know what to tell you."
So it still hurt for about a week. He told his very scary father that his tooth hurt. He did not know what to tell him. So it hurt for another week. Then the baby dinosaur finally decided to stick his mouth into a fire burning volcano and some sharp things popped out of his mouth. They were big, sharp teeth.

(My favorite is the part of the "very scary father." If you know Steve's dad, you know where the inspiration came from.)

A Birthday Outing

Yesterday (5/7) was my 28th birthday!

Steve, being the wonderful husband to the somewhat hormonal-always hungry-often tired-sometimes nauseas-pregnant lady (that's me!) made yesterday the best birthday ever. He started out the morning surprising me with my current favorite, sausage biscuit, hash brown, and OJ from McDonalds...I cried.

After work, I came home and received my presents: root beer (caffiene free and DELICIOUS), a radio/cd player (for laying next to the pool this summer), and a FLIP video camera (to record Sprout's every move).

Yesterday was our mother's day celebration at work so after helping 75 first graders and their moms make crafts, I was exhausted. We settled on chinese take-out for dinner and agreed to go "out" for dinner today.

So, where did we go? Gizzard City! A few nights ago we were watching Diner's Drive In's and Dives and saw this place that's only 30 miles from here. We had to go!

I checked out the menu ahead of time and knew it would be a tough decision. Steve, on the other hand, knew just what he was getting: The Triple D! It's a deep fried hamburger!

The best part was dessert! Deep fried cookie dough!

In the end, it was a great birthday outing. One that we will always remember because Steve moaned and groaned in discomfort the whole way home. Sprout and I, on the other hand, were comfortably resting and happy with our deep fried meal.

*Some people really "needed" to see this. Sorry, it's the best picture I can get at 6:30 am. :) Hopefully, I can get a better one tomorrow on mother's day! (me @ 13w3d)

Moose

You may get tired of reading posts about our "little baby," but here's one more.

You see, Moose isn't actually the baby of the house any more.

Meet Sprout! Yup, I'm pregnant! That's our baby. We couldn't be happier, and Moose has NO idea how much his life is going to change in November.
