Honeybells!

Every year, Steve's Grandma Gard sends us a shipment of Honeybells for Christmas. We LOVE this present and look forward to it. Hailey won't get to enjoy them (directly) this year, but next year, we're going to have to share!
Thanks, Triple G!

A Countdown of Another Kind

It seems like yesterday that I was counting down to my due date. Unfortunately, this countdown isn't near as exciting. The countdown to returning to work has begun. Today, Hailey is spending 1/2 day at the babysitters to practice. We BOTH need to practice. Last week she went for 2 hours on Tuesday and then 4 hours on Thursday. That wasn't too bad, but 9 hours every day for 5 days straight!!...THAT will be BAD!

I keep telling Steve she NEEDS me, but of course we need a paycheck and benefits, too.

Wish me luck on the 24th. I'm going to need that...and patience.

10 Things on 10 Weeks

Hailey is 10 weeks old today! Wow! I'm not sure if time has flown, or if it seems like she's always been with us, but we are so happy to have her.

So, here are 10 things we love about our "little buddy" (that's what her dad calls her):

10: When Hailey is sleepy or upset, she rubs her nose back and forth on your shoulder, "Stevie Wonder Style." When I am not around, I can tell if she's been upset because her nose is red from rubbing.

9: She's an excellent nurser (is nurser a word?). From day 1 we haven't had any problems with breastfeeding. I joke it's been the one thing she's happy about. (knock on wood)

8: We LOVE her cheeks. She was born with (what we thought was) big cheeks and they keep getting bigger. Sometimes I squish them together to get the full effect. She doesn't seem to mind. I'm her mom. I'm allowed to do those things.

7. Those LIPS! Hailey has some serious lips and loves to push them out. She's starting to grow into them...or maybe we are just getting used to them.

6. Hailey loves to be swaddled. Often, if she is upset and we start to swaddle her, she lets out an "ahhhh." It's too sweet.

5. When Hailey wakes up and we unswaddle her, her arms shoot up out of the swaddle and she sticks her lips out and stretches. Sometimes I unswaddle her just to see this act.

4. Hailey loves her baths. I give her a bath every night because it makes her happy.

3. Every morning after Hailey eats I prop her up on her boppy on my lap and we talk. She's a great listener but sometimes she smiles at all the wrong times. :)

2. I almost forgot all of her "imperfections." She has a "strawberry" on her chest, another birthmark on her bootie, hair on her ears (still), and funny pointed toenails. These are things that are only cute on a baby. She ROCKS the hairy ears. :)

1. We love our Hailey because she's ours. She's certainly not a perfect baby, but she's sweet, smart, and beautiful. She stubborn like her daddy, emotional like her momma, and happy to be here...we think.

Something to Smile About!

Last night Hailey slept 9-9 waking 2 times to eat (and once to visit with Dad before work)! That is AMAZING for her! Let's hope this continues and we'll all be smiling!

Whatever Works

I didn't think I would want a thumb sucker, but since Hailey won't take a pacifier, I would LOVE for her to find something else that calms her. :) She's almost there!

2 months old

Hailey is two months old today!

There is so much you should know about her!

Nicknames: Sprout, Sprouty, Baby Girl, McGee (and anything that goes with it...Stinky McGee, Chunky McGee, Cheeks McGee, Fussy McGee, etc.)

Likes: eating, baths, snuggling, rubbing her face on you (?), white noise, bouncing/swinging in our arms

Dislikes: being awake and NOT eating, bottles (but she WILL drink from them), pacifiers (darn it), tummy time

Skills: drinking anything from a dropper, kicking, getting mom and dad to do just about anything to make her happy

We went to her 2 month check up yesterday. She did a pretty good job during the shots, and I LOVED the long nap after them. I expressed my concerns to Dr. Tom about Hailey being a fussy baby. His instructions were as long as she's clean and fed, to let her cry a little more since she's perfectly healthy. That's easier said than done, but I am working on it.

She's a healthy girl!
Weight: 11lbs 8oz (49th percentile)
Height: 23 1/4 inches (65th percentile)

I go back to work in less than 3 weeks so we are really working on getting Hailey ready. She is taking a bottle a day. We are slowly working her up to drinking 3 oz, but right now she's taking 2. By then, she is totally mad at the bottle! We are also still trying to get her to take a pacifier, but it looks like she may be more interested in her hand. Hailey and I are going to hang out at the sitters one day this week and then she'll go on her own for a little bit over the next two weeks to get us ready. I'm a little nervous about getting us both ready in the morning so we're going to have to practice that one, too.

Hailey just got over some pretty serious acne. It lasted a few weeks and got to show it off to everyone during the holidays. Now, it is almost gone and has left behind some dry skin, but it looks so much better.
